About

The Heart Behind Koro Farmstay

Our Story

Koro Farmstay was established in response to a growing crisis in Northern Uganda. Years of conflict and displacement disrupted traditional farming systems that once ensured household food security.

As a result:

  • Indigenous seeds have disappeared

  • Food storage knowledge has been lost

  • Farming costs have risen

  • Communities have become dependent on external inputs

Koro Farmstay exists to restore what once worked and adapt it to today’s challenges.

Founder’s Story

Koro Farmstay was founded by Alfred Rogol, a native of Gulu, Northern Uganda.

Alfred has lived and worked in the United Kingdom for over 40 years as a Biochemist and IT Engineer. Through frequent visits to Northern Uganda, he observed declining food security, misuse of agrochemicals, and loss of seed-saving culture.

Combining scientific knowledge with cultural understanding, Alfred committed to building a practical, community-led solution focused on seed sovereignty, safe food systems, and sustainable livelihoods.

Our Vision

We envision communities that:

  • Are food secure year-round

  • Control their own seeds

  • Farm in harmony with nature

  • Value agriculture as a dignified livelihood

  • Pass knowledge to future generations

Our Mission

To restore food security and resilience in Northern Uganda through sustainable agriculture, traditional seed systems, community training, and eco-tourism.

Our Values
  • Community ownership

  • Respect for indigenous knowledge

  • Environmental and human health

  • Practical, low-cost solutions

  • Long-term sustainability
